How to Install the Maytag UKF8001 — Step by Step
Find the Filter
Open the fridge. The UKF8001 is located in the upper interior of the refrigerator compartment — either upper right or upper left depending on your specific model. Look for the round filter housing cover.
Turn Off the Ice Maker
Lift the ice maker arm to the off position or press the ice maker off button.
Remove the Old Filter
Grip the filter firmly and rotate counterclockwise approximately a quarter-turn until it releases. Pull straight out. Have a towel ready for a small drip.

Remove the protective cap from the O-ring end of the new filter. Align with the housing and push in, then rotate clockwise to a firm locked stop. The housing cover should close flush.
Flush 2–3 Gallons
Run the dispenser for 4–6 minutes and discard the water. First water may be grey or cloudy — normal carbon dust, harmless. Continue until clear.
Reset the Filter Light
Hold the Filter Reset or Water Filter button on your control panel for 3 seconds until the indicator resets. Turn ice maker back on.
